Sounds like all genres are welcome. It's just that the majority of proposed submissions have been classical.

Most classical music is not copyrighted, so that also makes it a lot easier to make a legal recording.

I'm looking into the copyright aspect of my would-be Jacques Brel song.

I will contribute as a beginner.

My screen name is: TromboneAl
It will be jazz and 4 minutes or less.

Neat idea -- thanks.

I'll submit 1 or 2 Brahm's Intermezzi. Op.116, #4 for sure and quite possibly Op. 118, #2. Will determine duration and post it later.

I'd love to contribute something!
Still TBD though ;\)
Probably Chopin nocturne or something, 3'-5' max.

I thought about submitting Clair de Lune, but I see someone else already has that. Another piece I thought about has copyright issues. And a third I don't know about. At least I can listen to the CD. \:\)

We could have a whole Clair de Lune section. It'd be like those records of 20 different renditions of Pachelbel's Canon.

I thought about maybe some Promenades to go around Penny's other Pictures pieces, but it'd be too boring.

And about this copyrighted material...how are people going to send rock and roll or jazz numbers in unless they are original (are they original?)

(I guess I should buy a mic this weekend and experiment before I commit to anything). Just technical-wise I may not be able to produce anything listenable, never mind quality-wise. :p

I would like to submit the 2nd Movement of Beethoven's Pathetique about 6 minutes or a couple of short Chopin Preludes or Chopin's Waltz in A minor.

My Daughter Katie (11 years old and studying for 6) could do any one of a few really nice pieces she knows from Carol Klose's Maestro There's a Fly in My Waltz, or a movement or two from a Clementi Sonatina. I am sure we could get a signed release from Carol. She is a former student of our current teacher. If not then the Clementi would be good selections for her.

I told her I would let her join the forums so look for her tomorrow sometime!

Well okay .... *If* I can get my act together & figure out the recording/conversion/uploading parts .... I'll submit Chopin's Op. 28 No. 6 (Prelude in B Minor)/Bach's Invention #13 (much slower than Gould I'll add!!). Both should clock in at ~2 minutes a piece.

BTW, I belong in the "Beginner/Re-tread" Section.

The only thing I know well enough to submit at the moment is the Brahms 118 #2 Intermezzo - which has been listed already. If I can manage to actually get it recorded (which is not looking promising at the moment) is it ok to duplicate? No problem if it isn't - one less project for me to stress over is a good thing. \:D

Awww, darn, jodi (waves to jodi). I was hoping that you'd join us for a Seattle-area recording session. I think doing the same piece as another person will be okay. There's going to be so much wonderful music on this CD that two skillful, musical, brilliant interpretations of the same work will be fine.

Multiple submissions of the same piece by different folks are fine... but I draw the line at 20 versions of Greensleeves as previously stated. ;\)

Well, nobody has mentioned it so I have dibs. I'll be submitting Fur Elise. Since I'm a beginner, I'm only going to be able to do the first section so that leaves it open for an intermediate to advanced player to submit the whole thing. \:D

I just started learning it today, but I'm pretty sure I'll have it down by the 30th.

Hi folks,

I can probably do a decent performance of the following "songs," heh heh:

* Scriabin Etude Op. 8/2 in F#-
* Scriabin Etude Op. 2/1 in C#-
* Rachmaninoff Prelude Op. 3/2 in C#-
* Chopin Etude Op. 25/10 in B-
* Chopin Etude Op. 10/6 in Eb-
* Chopin Etude Op. 10/4 in C#- (maybe)
* Chopin Fantaisie Impromptu in C#-
* Chopin Nocturne, Op. Post in C#-
* Debussy, Claire de Lune (I'm joking, of course...)
* Scott Joplin, Weeping Willow, or maybe Maple Leaf and/or Gladiolus Rag

Of all these, the first one (Scriabin Op. 8/2) is probably the only one that's not heard all that often. So that one's probably in, but which of the others would everyone like to hear? Which ones are not overplayed, if any? What would go best on the CD (i.e. which are ones nobody else is likely to come up with?)

Thanks for any & all input...

-Paul

Anybody in SoCal have the equipment to have a recording party (or really, marathon)?

Gershwin is definitely out for me. Copyright renewed in 1996. That leaves The Old Castle and Anitra's Dance, if I can pull that last one off. Actually, I'm officially "done" with it, having played it really well for my teacher last week! I feel like I DID finish a marathon. It's not really long, but (at least for me), it ain't easy!

Gryphon, do you really find the Pictures boring? I don't at all!

I will try to borrow a mike and mixer and record either a Chopin waltz, or movement from a Beethoven Sonata, maybe the second movement from the moonlight, or the second from the 7th. Not sure of the time, will have to get the stopwatch out.

I you all wouldn't mind too much and it wouldn't annoy anyone AND if you all promise not to laugh, I would like to submit Fur Elise by Beethoven. If you can't stand that, then maybe Moonlight Sonata--1st movement. Not sure about the time, but I am sure it will seem like forever to me.

I can't believe I just did this...

Submission declaration deadline is September 30 -- about one week from now.

See Call for Submission, the table in 2nd post [/b], if you see "TBD" in your entry, please post specifics for those TBD's or send me e-mail to fill in those TBD items.

Please aim to have those TBD's filled in by 30 September, 2004.

Please plan to have all material submitted by 31 December 2004[/b] (i.e., you have three months or so to get your recording ready).

Thanks.
